COLLINS VS. OSTAPENKO AMONG THURSDAY BLOCKBUSTERS

No less than seven Americans — top seed Jessica Pegula, defending champion Danielle Collins, Madison Keys, Emma Navarro, Amanda Anisimova, Sofia Kenin and Ashlyn Krueger — will be among those battling it out for quarterfinal berths on Thursday at the 2025 Credit One Charleston Open.

Thursday Order of Play

A first-time WTA 1000 winner earlier this year in Doha, the eighth seed Anisimova will kick things off in Credit One Stadium at 11 a.m., when she faces Kazakh Yulia Putintseva. It will be a rematch of their second-round clash in Charleston in 2022, won by Anisimova, 6-1, 6-2. She would go on to reach the semifinals.

Next up will be an all-U.S. clash between Navarro and Krueger. Navarro, a Charleston native, claimed their only other encounter, 6-1, 6-1 in the Charlottesville (Challenger) final in 2023. Fresh off her run to the Miami Open final (l. to Aryna Sabalenka, 7-5, 6-2), Pegula will close out the day session in Credit One Stadium when she faces Australia’s Ajla Tomljanovic. Pegula, 31, edged Tomljanovic earlier this year en route to the Austin title, claiming their semifinal, 6-1, 4-6, 6-3.

The night session (not before 6 p.m.) will feature Keys against 14th seed Anna Kalinskaya, followed by Kenin versus 2017 champion Daria Kasatkina of Australia.

The most anticipated matchup of the day, however, might just be the Althea Gibson Club Court tussle between the reigning Charleston titlist Collins and 2017 runner-up Jelena Ostapenko. Two of the sport’s most emotional, fiery performers going head-to-head with plenty at stake.

She’s a great player and also a great personality,” said Ostapenko of her next opponent. “It’s going to be a tough match. I think we pretty much play the same style of tennis, so I think we’re going to have some big-hitting rallies.”

Their games might be similar, but their outlook on life might just be, too.

She’s the way she is,” said Ostapenko of the unapologetically original Collins. “She’s not trying to be someone that people are waiting for. She’s just herself and she’s real, and I kind of like it.”
