The Credit One Charleston Open, the largest women’s-only tennis tournament in North America, has announced its preliminary player field for the 2023 tournament, which features five top 10 players, five past champions and four Grand Slam champions. The event, which was recently named the 2022 WTA 500 Tournament of the Year, is the annual kickoff to the clay season on the WTA Hologic Tour and is scheduled April 1 – 9 in the renovated and modernized Credit One Stadium on Daniel Island in Charleston, South Carolina.
The field is headlined by 2023 Australian Open champion Aryna Sabalenka, three-time 2022 Grand Slam quarterfinalist and top-ranked American Jessica Pegula, two-time 2022 Grand Slam finalist Ons Jabeur, 2022 Roland-Garros semifinalist Daria Kasatkina and 2022 Charleston champion Belinda Bencic. In addition, 2023 Australian Open semifinalists Victoria Azarenka, a former World No. 1 and two-time Grand Slam singles champion, and Magda Linette, a 2022 Charleston doubles champion, have entered the field.
