Spaniard Paula Badosa commits to Charleston in 2025 after impressive comeback season

CHARLESTON, S.C. – 2024 US Open quarterfinalist and former World No. 2 Paula Badosa will return to play the Credit One Charleston Open, the largest women’s-only professional tennis tournament in North America, for the fifth consecutive year. The 26-year-old Spaniard is currently ranked World No. 14, having risen from World No. 100 in May, marking an impressive career comeback following a season-ending injury sustained in 2023. She will compete alongside World No. 4 Jessica Pegula and World No. 8 Emma Navarro at the Charleston tournament, taking place from March 29 to April 6 at Credit One Stadium on Daniel Island in Charleston, South Carolina.

The Credit One Charleston Open was recognized as the WTA 500 Tournament of the Year in both 2022 and 2023. Now in its 53rd year and originally held on Hilton Head Island, the tournament will celebrate 25 years in Charleston in 2025. Ticket packages are currently available, with single session tickets going on sale starting November 12.

Badosa captured her fourth career title at the DC Open in August. From June to October, she showcased consistent results, reaching the quarterfinals in Bad Homburg and the US Open, advancing to the semifinals in Cincinnati, Beijing, and Ningbo, and making it to the fourth round at Wimbledon.

“We’re excited to welcome Paula Badosa back to the Credit One Charleston Open. She joins a fantastic lineup of talent for next year’s tournament, showcasing the best of women’s tennis,” said Bob Moran, President of Beemok Sports & Entertainment. “Paula’s remarkable journey this season has captured the hearts of fans, and we look forward to seeing her in action again in Charleston.”

The 2025 Credit One Charleston Open will mark Badosa’s fifth appearance in the tournament, where she holds a 9-4 win-loss record. She reached the semifinals in 2021 and the quarterfinals in 2022 and 2023.

“I’m really looking forward to returning to Charleston in 2025. This tournament means so much to me, especially with my past results there. I feel healthy and strong again, and I’m excited to build on the momentum from this season as I get ready to compete in Charleston again.”

The nine-day Credit One Charleston Open showcases a singles draw of 48 players, a qualifying draw of 24 players, and a doubles draw of 16 players. The event traditionally hosts more than 90,000 attendees on Daniel Island.

Charleston Tennis, LLC, which manages Credit One Stadium under a lease from the City of Charleston, renovated and modernized the 20-year-old facility in 2022. The city-owned venue underwent upgrades to enhance the stadium experience for patrons, performers, tennis players and event management, allowing the venue to attract world-class athletes and talent to Daniel Island.

The Credit One Charleston Open has been a pioneer in women’s professional sports since 1973, paving the way for female tennis players to receive equal recognition, respect, and compensation in the sport. Originally held on Hilton Head Island, the event relocated to Charleston in 2001 and is now played at the LTP Daniel Island tennis center, home to Credit One Stadium.
